SAS with the Maquis: In Action with the French Resistance, June–September 1944 by Ian Wellsted. The book covers the SAS activities in support of the Allied Invasion of Normandy. Wellsted jumped into the night on June 6th. Instead of being five miles from the invasion beaches his team jumped in 400 miles away. Their mission was to slow German reinforcements from reaching Normandy. His team ended up spending 3 months collecting intelligence and fighting the Germans.
Also discussed in this episode is Stephen Canty's documentary "Once a Marine". The film follows a small group of Marines through their deployment to Afghanistan and reintegration to civilian life. It is available on Amazon video.
Solid review of a book that highlights or explains the beginning of special forces as we know them today. But the real value of the podcast is discussions at the end of episode which discusses tactics, training and equipment considerations.
